    What’s Happening At The Lake …

    Although Valentine’s Day was on Tuesday, one of our staff members enjoyed a special date night last weekend at Staller Estate Winery, north of Delavan. She, along with her special someone, enjoyed a five-course meal prepared by Chef Tyler Sailsbery from The Black Sheep restaurant in Whitewater, accompanied by Staller Estate Wines.     Last weekend marked the eighth year, Nei-Turner Media Group, publishers of At The Lake magazine hosted WELL Expo – Healthy Living for Women. This two-day event in Madison featured over 100 exhibitors showcasing resources for weight loss, medical care, wellness programs, healthy foods, green living, exercise, beauty and so much more.     We’ve had a week of gloomy, foggy, rainy, and icy days at the lake. Area schools were closed Monday and the slipping and sliding continued through mid-week. Not only did the treacherous weather hamper driving, it made walking tricky, even for short distances.   Read More...

One of our favorite things to do is to take a ride on the East Troy Electric Railroad as it makes its way to Santa’s workshop. The train departs from the East Troy Depot and heads north on its 10-mile journey to the Elegant Farmer, where Santa and his elves welcome passengers for a visit.   Read More...

    The first substantial snowfall of the season blanketed the Geneva Lakes area last weekend, which meant winter sports enthusiasts were dusting off their skis and hitting the slopes. The timing couldn’t have been better for those wanting to check out the makeover at nearby Wilmot Mountain. Visitors were welcomed back to the ski slope with more than $13 million in improvements by its new owner Vail Resorts.   Read More...

    Our unbelievably mild fall weather has certainly been an unexpected treat. Blue skies and warm temperatures keep tempting us to keep the patio furniture out, crack the windows for fresh air and wear lightweight jackets instead of bundling up to thwart the typical mid-November chill.     After the Chicago Cubs won the World Series, fans in the Midwest had plenty to celebrate and many carried the party right into the 7th annual Beer & Spirits Festival on Saturday. A crowd of 1,000+ attendees, some in newly purchased World Series attire, brought a lot of energy to the fun-filled afternoon at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa.     Although Travel Wisconsin’s Fall Color Report says Walworth County’s fall foliage is past peak, we found a place earlier this week that still caused us to pause and revel in the season’s beauty. Snake Road which follows a portion of Geneva Lake’s north shore is one of our favorite drives during the fall. Just west of the city of Lake Geneva, the Wisconsin Rustic Road is just under three miles long, so it’s a detour worth taking.   Read More...

    Last weekend as the autumn colors in the lakes area were peaking, Lake Geneva Canopy Tours held its 6th annual Fall Festival & Pumpkin Drop. In addition to food, live music pumpkin painting, and a scavenger hunt, those attending could participate in the ever-popular Pumpkin Drop – a contest that requires a bit of daring, fearlessness and a competitive streak.     Although most of the electorate is tired of this year’s presidential campaign, Pearce’s Farm Stand, near Fontana, has been having a little fun with the political climate with their one-of-a-kind corn maze. A 12-acre corn field has been transformed into a maze depicting the Republican and Democratic nominees, and visitors are flocking to it to each weekend.     Perfect fall weather greeted visitors to Lake Geneva last weekend for the city’s annual Oktoberfest celebration. The downtown district was decked out with dried corn stalks, pumpkins, gourds and bales of hay to create a festive atmosphere for the large crowds enjoying the long Columbus Day weekend.     It’s apple-picking time at the lake, and one of our favorite places to visit each fall is the Apple Barn Orchard & Winery near Elkhorn. Although last weekend was overcast and a bit cool, one of our staff members and her family ventured to the Apple Barn and enjoyed an afternoon of apple picking in between rain drops. The acres of orchards produce an abundance of apple varieties, including Honey Gold, Cortland, Honey Crisp, Ida Red and more.   Read More...

    Last weekend, boat lovers flocked to The Abbey Resort Harbor for the annual Geneva Lakes Antique and Classic Boat Show presented by the Blackhawk Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society. Vintage watercrafts from around the country were on display both Saturday and Sunday. Registered boats included antique and classic runabouts and utilities, as well as lapstrake, outboard, and Streblow boats.   Read More...

    Fall officially arrived this week, but festivals to celebrate the harvest and the last remnants of summer have been abundant since the first weekend in September. Pearce’s Annual Fall Harvest Festival held last Saturday and Sunday was the place to be for fresh produce along with hayrides, helicopter rides, music and more. Last Saturday’s 20th Annual Fat Tire Ride attracted hundreds of cyclists, who enjoyed a fun tour around the lake along with rest stops at a number of local watering holes like Chuck’s in Fontana and Champs Sports Bar in Lake Geneva.   Read More...

    The last week of August is always a time of transition at the lake. Downtown shops are a little less busy, the beach is not as crowded, fewer people are waiting in line at restaurants, and traffic on bike trails is almost non-existent. Last weekend, the 40th annual Williams Bay Fine Art & Craft Festival drew a big crowd to Edgewater Park, where artists from around the Midwest showcased everything from oil paintings and handmade jewelry, to stained glass and garden sculptures.     Last week thousands of visitors descended on Walworth County, specifically the Steve Snudden farm on County Highway B, for the 62nd annual Wisconsin Farm Technology Days. The three-day event was a wonderful opportunity to learn about our state’s agriculture economy and get up close and personal with all facets of farming, including the Snudden’s herd of dairy cows. A member of our staff, along with her son, visited Blue Clay Berry Farm near Delavan last week, where the berries were plentiful and their hard work yielded three pounds of this summertime favorite.     Families flocked to the lake last weekend for the Easter holiday, and shops, restaurants and even the Shore Path were noticeably busier. The Easter Bunny and a 4-H menagerie of baby animals were on hand at The Elegant Farmer for their Cheep, Cheep Easter Celebration, which included rides on the East Troy Electric Railroad’s Bunny Train.     We all experienced a sure sign of spring last weekend as we set our clocks ahead by one hour to usher in Daylight Saving Time. The change in seasons was also apparent with the return of Lake Geneva Cruise Line boats to the Riviera Docks in Lake Geneva.     The Geneva Lakes area was blanketed with a thick snow cover last weekend. Area snow totals reported by the National Weather Service ranged from 9-11,” a record-breaking amount for southeastern Wisconsin in November.     What’s Happening At The Lake …

    Although Halloween was celebrated throughout the lakes area on this last weekend of daylight saving time, other activities were also abundant. To mark All Hallows' Evening, one of our staff members dressed her children in ghoulish garb for a spooktacular party at Elkhorn High School. Others headed to Highfield Farm Creamery near Walworth, where they make very small batches of artisan cheese from milk that is produced on the farm.   Read More...

Snake Road between Williams Bay and Lake Geneva was especially beautiful with scores of bright yellow and red maples and rusty-colored oaks lining the way.     Another fall weekend, another Oktoberfest celebration! Last Saturday, Elkhorn hosted their fall festival with a beer tasting, chili cook-off, classic car show and 5K run and 2 mile walk.     Last Saturday and Sunday, Lake Geneva hosted thousands of visitors for its 24th annual Oktoberfest celebration with crowds gathering downtown for food, live music, craft vendors, plus family-friendly events like face-painting, hay rides and much more.     Last weekend’s perfect, chamber of commerce-like weather was the ideal backdrop to many fun outdoor activities. Pearce’s annual Harvest Celebration combined a full farmers market of produce with fun, kid-friendly activities, including the ever-popular climbing tower made from hay bales.     The Geneva Lakes area experienced its first taste of cool, autumn-like weather last weekend, but that didn’t deter anyone from enjoying the many outdoor activities on tap. The 6th Annual Midwest SUP Masters Race was fun for participants as well as spectators.     The warm weather over Labor Day weekend meant the lake was busy with those last summer boat outings. On Sunday morning, a boat fire destroyed a 21-foot Cobalt near Stone Manor, but the four passengers and dog on board were safely rescued by the Water Safety Patrol.     It was another busy weekend At The Lake as visitors flocked to the area for events on the water and on land. More than 800 sailors and 250 boats competed in the Inland Lake Yachting Association Championship Regatta held on Geneva Lake.     The hot weather over the last week didn’t deter our staff from enjoying fun, summertime activities. In fact, it was perfect for a concert in Lake Geneva’s Flat Iron Park, which by the way, occur every Thursday night. (No concert this week due to Venetian Festival.)     What’s Happening At The Lake . . .

    Summer is in full swing with dozens of things to do in the Geneva Lakes area, and last weekend was no exception. In addition to Swim for Freedom, the annual eight-mile swim from the Lake Geneva Beach to Fontana for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, the Madison Classics Car Show and Swap Meet took over the Walworth County Fairgrounds.
